Saigon’s antique market may not be the place for the most discerning collectors but there are plenty of nice finds be they fakes, reproductions or originals.

Right opposite Ben Thanh Market in the centre of town, Le Cong Kieu St is Saigon’s antique street. Packed solid with small shops cramming in colonial memorabilia, Buddha statues, old coins, art, furniture and more. It’s only 100 metres or so in length so it’s an easy stroll before or after a visit to Ben Thanh Market. And the challenge of crossing the enormous roundabout is an important Saigon rite. Be careful.

Claims of antique authenticity are likely to be bogus but we’re not experts. Genuine antiques may also require export permits.
