Chuc Mung Nam Moi - Happy New Year - from Hanoi! Each year during Tet, Hanoi's calligraphers gather along the wall at the Temple of Literature to sell their work. The upside of being here during Tet is that the city suddenly feels like a small town again as a large swathe of the migrant population heads back to the countryside. The misty winter has a special mystique too. The downside is that much of the city is closed.
Rusty Compass listings are always independent. We list the places we think are worth knowing about. Our Featured Listings allow a small selection of businesses already recommended by us, to pay a fee for a place at the top of our list. That’s it. Featured Listings have no impact on reviews, or on the curation and independence of our lists.
