Phnom Penh’s Central Market - known in Khmer as Psar Thmei - is as much an architectural and people watching adventure as it is a shopping stop. Most travellers prefer the Russian Market for shopping.

Designed and built by the French, it opened for business in 1937 - its scale and engineering accomplishment a first for the city. Psar Thmei is Phnom Penh’s most extravagant art-deco edifice and one of a handful of architectural landmarks in the city.
As for the shopping, there are plenty of clothes, handicrafts, jewellery and silkwares. Be sure to bargain.
