While nightlife probably won’t be at the centre of your travels to Cambodia, options have improved aplenty since the 90s when the country was the epicentre of sleaze in Asia. These days the capital Phnom Penh and Siem Reap have a great selection of bars that range from the quiet and sophisticated through to the raucous and seedy. All tastes are covered.

Sihanoukville on the southern coast is home to Cambodia’s most happening party scene. Hundreds of backpackers descend on Serendipity Beach each night to enjoy incredibly cheap beer and spirits, dancing, bonding and probably lots more. Sihanoukville also remains a haunt for many fairly dubious male travellers post mid-life.

Smaller towns like Battambang, Kampot and Kep sport a quaint collection of bars in pleasant locations that will be perfect for a quiet drink.
