Saigon to the sea - along the Saigon River

The Saigon River is the lifeblood of Vietnam's largest city and commercial centre. The river journey from the fast-changing city skyline to the sea provides a rivetting view of the heavy steel of the ports, their huge cranes and container ships, as well as timeless smaller craft cutting their way through islands of water hyacinth. The journey ends through the rehabilitated mangrove forest at Can Gio, a former Viet Cong sanctuary drenched in defoliants by the US and South Vietnamese during the Vietnam War.
