Review
If you’re seeking evidence for the claim that Asia’s middle class is going steak crazy, you’ll find it at El Gaucho Argentinian Steak House in Saigon. It’s busy any night of the week, with an enviable mix of affluent locals, business types and well-remunerated expats.
El Gaucho’s success isn’t a mystery. These guys know what they’re doing. From the cool fit-out and to the service and food, a lot of work has gone into getting this formula right. Whether you pull up a stool at the bar, or take at table upstairs, this is a slick operation.
Be ready to spend. You’ll be doing very well if you escape El Gaucho with any change from $50USD per person on food alone. And you can very easily spend more - especially if you like your exotic 300 gram steaks.
There are also burgers as well as a selection of chicken, fish and pork dishes on the menu. A couple of pasta options are provided for vegetarians who are comfortable around such carnivorous zeal.
The wine list is extensive. Argentinian and Chilean labels are well represented. There’s also a good selection of other old and new world wines. Most wines are over $50USD a bottle.
El Gaucho’s success has spread. There are two in Saigon, two more in Hanoi and one in Bangkok.
Saigon’s second El Gaucho is located at Unit CR1-12, The Crescent, Phu My Hung,District 7.
