A popular grill-house in downtown Saigon for those craving a festival of meat. Also popular for cocktails.

Stoker is a quality little cavern of carnivorousness in the heart of Saigon - the third successful Saigon eatery from the group behind nearby Racha Room and Relish and Sons.

These guys know what they’re doing and Stoker’s established a reputation for quality. All the meats are cooked on the wood-fired grill. And they use processes incomprehensible to me, like dry-ageing.

Whatever they’re doing, it’s working a treat. The food’s delicious and the place is usually buzzing.

I also like the fact that there are great sides of vegetables - an essential companion to any meat-fest in my humble view.

I eat less red meat than ever these days - so when I do indulge, it’s good to do it properly. And Stoker's a proper meatery.

Stoker’s also a popular spot for cocktails. The bar downstairs sees regular gatherings of expats and locals.

Stoker won’t be a cheap night out - it’s a classy spot and reasonably priced for what’s on offer.

As you leave Stoker, say hi to Mach Chay, the man behind one of Saigon’s legendary banh mi stands. You probably won't be hungry, but Mach Chay, and his father before him, have been serving banh mi here for 7 decades. The trolley swings into action at around 9PM.
