The Mach House is a cosy downtown refuge of unpretentious, tasty, French cuisine and wine.

The Mach House owners, Caroline from Saigon and her French partner Jean-Luc, have a history in the coffee business. The Vietnamese Mach family have been roasting coffee since the 1940s. Now they’ve created a uniquely intimate little French restaurant. It’s a cosy casual spot with occasional service clunkiness that is more than compensated by the atmosphere and the food.

I’ve eaten here several times - everything from duck to steak, salads to pasta. It’s become a favourite Saigon stop for a quiet meal and a glass of wine. The owners are serious about their produce too and, they’re usually on hand to tell you about it. Everything’s well priced.

This is very much a domain of the French - which is reassuring in a French restaurant. English is spoken by staff and owners.

Rusty Compass recommendations are always independent. We list the places we think you should know - that’s it. We’ve paid our way on all visits to the Mach House and no money changed hands for this listing.
