Where to stay in Nha Trang - the town, Ninh Van Bay or Cam Ranh?

The Nha Trang area is home to three main beach destinations - Nha Trang City, Ninh Van Bay to the north and Cam Ranh to the south. This is our guide to choosing the destination that's right for you.

Nha Trang City - high-rise mass tourism

Nha Trang City tends to be a place of high-rise hotels, tour coaches - a mass tourism destination that seems to be growing as much and as fast as it can.

The bay is beautiful but can get grubby - especially after a lot of rain.

The town is especially popular with Chinese, Russian and domestic tour groups. Expect big crowds during holidays.

There are some interesting sights around the town and there’s an interesting local food scene. This is a serious tourist town - if that’s your thing.

Ninh Van Bay - Natural luxury on the bay

Ninh Van Bay is home to three isolated luxury resorts in beautiful natural settings - the antithesis to Nha Trang .

The original, Six Senses Ninh Van Bay, is one of Vietnam’s most exclusive beach resorts. The locally managed An Lam Retreats and L’Alyana are nicely done too.  All three are only accessible by boat.

Cam Ranh Bay - up and coming destination, spectacular expanse of beach

Cam Ranh Bay has the potential to be one of South East Asia’s great beach destinations - if managed well. The former US base area has a handful of resorts right now -  we only list two - Fusion Resort and The Anam.

You’ll spend most of your time relaxing in your resort and exploring the beach. The nearest nightlife and restaurant scene is in Nha Trang.

Cam Ranh Bay’s resorts are right by the area’s main airport making them very convenient.
