In a picturesque rural setting, ideal for exploration. It's an 8km cycle to Phong Nha Caves. It's away from everything - which is the point - so you'll be eating your meals and hanging out here as well.

Phong Nha Farmstay is owned by a local, Bich, and her Australian husband Ben. It has the vibe of a backpacker guesthouse but because options are limited here, it casts a much wider net. All kinds of travellers make it their base for exploration of the National Park, giving it a welcoming, community feel.

There are 10 basic rooms - perfectly suited to the location. They have air conditioning and private facilities and some have very nice views. There is also a dorm with 10 beds.

In addition to providing good, simple accommodation, the owners run tours to the caves, as well as trekking and cycling.

Phong Nha Farmstay gets rave reviews and it's about the only place here that's spent any time thinking about how to give travellers a great experience of the area's natural beauty. It's running high occupancy so make sure you book in advance.

Wifi, pool, rice paddy views
