Dalat is home to two of Vietnam's nicest colonial era hotels - the Dalat Palace and the Ana Mandara Villas.
Unfortunately, during the past decade, it's also been home to a construction boom of unsightly hotels. Indeed unsightly hotels have contributed mightily to the erosion of Dalat's charm - diminishing its appeal as a destination for international tourists.
The Rusty Compass Dalat hotel listing is short and sweet. It contains just three hotels - all colonial era - the Du Parc Hotel, that starts from under $40, through to the rustic comfort of the Ana Mandara Villas, and at the top, the luxurious and historic Dalat Palace.
There are hundreds of other hotel options, many very comfortable, well located and well priced. But most of these are unsightly and have contributed little or nothing to efforts to preserve some of Dalat's unique architectural heritage.
