Dalat town disappoints many but travels in the surrounding countryside can give a welcome lift to the underwhelmed.

Dalat’s cool climate and pretty countryside make it perfect for exploring. A loose collective of motorcycle riders known as Easy Riders (they’re now found throughout southern Vietnam), offer tours from the back of their bikes. Plenty of local motorcycle taxi riders offer the same though Easy Riders tend to speak reasonable English too.

You can visit Dalat’s mainly underwhelming tourist sights before heading into a less structured tour of the surrounding countryside, villages and farms. For many travellers this makes the Dalat expedition worthwhile.

You’ll likely be accosted by Easy Riders guys while you're walking the streets. If you can’t find them, take a walk along Truong Cong St.

Vietnam’s roads are hairy so make sure your rider is safe. These guys are fairly accustomed to westerners and most are very helpful.

Phat Tire Ventures http://www.phattireventures.com/ are based in Dalat and do lots of interesting active things in the Dalat countryside including cycling to Mui Ne or Nha Trang.
