Location
The Lynnaya location is perfect - in a quiet riverside area shaded by tall trees and only a few hundred metres from the restaurants, shopping and nightlife of Siem Reap town. Temples are 15 minutes away by tuk-tuk.
Review
Travellers to Siem Reap are spoiled for choice when it comes to boutique hotels and the opening of the Lynnaya Urban Resort in early 2015 has raised the bar again. It’s locally owned and designed and marks the continuing improvement in Cambodia’s homegrown hotel sector.
The design gives a welcome nod to the New Cambodian modern architectural style that flourished across the country in the optimistic decade from the mid 1950s to the mid 1960s.
There are 46 rooms across three categories - all are comfortable in size and well decorated.
The lead-in superior rooms are very adequate at 40sqm. They’re located in a hotel-style block over two levels.
Deluxe rooms are in low-rise bungalows. The higher room categories get you an additional 10 sqm and an outdoor shower for a considerable premium.
The common areas at the Lynnaya are a highlight. The pool is a good size and in an attractive garden setting. And the restaurant and upstairs rooftop bar are airy and leafy and take advantage of the riverside location.
Siem Reap has seen many unsightly hotels built during the past decade - many calling themselves boutique. The fact that the Lynnaya is newly built, locally owned, designed and managed suggests better days for homegrown hotel development.
Staff I encountered were very good - but as a new hotel, some hiccups are to be expected.

Rusty Compass reviews are always independent. We conducted two inspections of the Lynnaya in March 2015, but did not stay there. We received no inducement, financial or otherwise to list and review Lynnaya Urban Resort.
