Blue Gecko is a Saigon institution and the city’s oldest sports bar - dating back to 1997.

It’s hard to imagine Blue Gecko without its affable owner, “Simmo” Nguyen, a Saigon local with a broader Australian accent than you’ll find in outback Australia. The bar’s been built on Simmo’s hospitality.

The neon sign out front of Blue Gecko reads “non members only” and that captures nicely the place's unpretentious welcome.

A good many Australian expats have made Blue Gecko their second home since its opening in the late 90s - which explains Simmo’s accent.

Blue Gecko’s barely changed since its opening - except gradual additions to the collection of sports memorabilia.

There’s a pool table, a dart board, 5 screens, a bar snacks menu, well priced drinks and friendly staff.

Australian classics are well represented in the rock sound track.
