Chim Sao is slightly away from Hanoi's main traveller area but it's well worth the 10 minute cab ride. It's the real thing in terms of Hanoi cuisine and the arty, family atmosphere is fantastic. It's an old Hanoi home and family members are usually around enjoying the fare. If you don't have Vietnamese friends in Hanoi, this might be the closest you'll get to a home cooked meal. If you’re upstairs, you’ll be seated on the floor on cushions. There are a few tables downstairs. Plenty of locals, including members of the Hanoi art set, crowd in to affirm Chim Sao's culinary standing. Recommended.

Rusty Compass listings are always independent. We list the places we think are worth knowing about. Our Featured Listings allow a small selection of businesses already recommended by us, to pay a fee for a place at the top of our list. That’s it.
