Review
Like its predecessor in Saigon, El Gaucho in Hanoi provides ample proof that Asia’s emerging middle class is going steak crazy. It’s busy any night of the week, with an enviable mix of affluent locals, business types and well-remunerated expats.
The tried and true formula perfected in Saigon is on display in Hanoi as well. These guys run a tight ship so you'll do well to notice major differences in the different restaurants. From the perfect location, cool fit-out, to the service and food, a lot of work has gone into getting this model right.
Be ready to spend. You’ll be doing very well if you escape El Gaucho with any change from $50USD per person on food alone. And you can very easily spend more - especially if you like your exotic 300 gram steaks.
In addition to the steaks, there are burgers and a selection of chicken, fish and pork dishes on the menu. A couple of pasta options are provided for vegetarians who are comfortable around such carnivorous zeal.
The wine list is extensive. Argentinian and Chilean wines are dominate but there’s also a good selection of other old and new world wines. Most wines are over $50USD a bottle.
There’s a second Hanoi El Gaucho in Hanoi’s West Lake area.

Rusty Compass listings are always independent. We list the stuff we think you should know about. That’s it. We’ve always paid our way at El Gaucho and received no inducement, financial or otherwise, for this listing.
