This is one of Hue’s oldest hotels and up until the late 1990s, the Huong Giang was the tourism showpiece of the city government. Set on the banks of the Perfume River, the Huong Giang the Huong Giang was designed by Vietnam's foremost modernist architect, Ngo Viet Thu - the man who designed the Reunification Palace in Saigon.

Review

The Huong Giang couldn’t be described as conventional in any sense - which is part of its appeal. There are extremes of 60s modernism and post 1975 Vietnam kitsch that are fast disappearing. So if you’re looking for something with plenty of local quirkiness, the Huong Giang may suit. It’s comfortable and well located as well.

Location

An excellent location in the centre of town and right on the banks of the Perfume River. The hotel’s river frontage is its best feature.

This building could easily inflame intense architectural debate - so we’ll stay out of it and let you judge it for yourself. It’s certainly more interesting - and bizarre - than some of the newer international hotels around town.

In decoration, rattan has been used with an extravagance we’ve never previously seen. Not only is most furniture made from it, but many walls are also lined with it. And as there are poky spaces in the building that seem to not serve any function, so too there are rattan furnishings that seem not to have any useful purpose - an eccentric local experience it is.

The staff of the Huong Giang are friendly and helpful.

Facilities

Pool, gym, spa, wifi internet in lobby area and business centre only.
