The Ngoc Anh Hotel is a small downtown hotel short on atmosphere but compensated by friendly helpful staff and some good local food. Rooms are basic but clean. On its website, the Ngoc Anh Hotel purports to have “established an enviable reputation for understated exclusivity” which might be a stretch for a basic property.

Hotel staff organise tours to nearby attractions including cycling and motorcycling tours with local guides. The family owners gather for lunch and dinner in the dining room each day. Ask them to prepare some extra for you and you’ll get to sample classic northern family cuisine. It may well be a highlight of your stay.
